Vacation are a big deal. The majority of people in this world don’t get nearly enough of them. You have probably already spent a great deal of time trying to decide when to go, where to go, who to go there with and what to do while you are there. Hopefully you have decided to fish the Salmon River with Captain Joe and this post is designed to answer your next question. “What should I bring?” This will also suffice as a guide for anyone planning on a guided fishing trip.
- Climate appropriate clothing: our drift boat has a heater but there will be times you will get out of the boat to throw in a few casts and depending on what month you visit upstate New York is known for being cold AND snowy. I am including a link to a cold weather clothing guide at the end of this post.
- An extra pair of socks in a zip-lock bag. It’s a good idea. It is today and it always will be.
- Lunch and a small snack. Some clients bring lunch and snacks for their guide but that option is completely up to you.
- hip boots or waders
- Rain gear
- NYS DEC Fishing License: Link to pricing and locations to purchase
- Camera or Camera Phone: You caught a fish, now you need a way to prove it your friends and family.
- Water and any other beverages you may want throughout the day.
- Hand Towel
- Hat
- Sunglasses: Polarized is a plus.
- Toilet Paper and/or Kleenex’s: the closest bathroom is a ways away. It’s not something people like to talk about, but hey, it is what it is.
- Fishing Equipment and tackle is included at Joe’s Outdoor and Fishing Adventures, as well as most guided fishing tours.
